Power-To-Train

A Masterclass in Designing and Delivering Learning That Truly Lands

Most workshops focus on content. This one focuses on both the learner and the presenter. Because effective facilitation is not just about what is taught—but how it is designed, delivered, and embodied.

If you’ve ever felt that your sessions could engage more deeply or land more clearly, this workshop helps you understand why—and what to do about it.

What This Workshop Is

Power-To-Train is not about collecting more techniques. It is a practice-based workshop where you experience facilitation as a learner, practise it yourself, and have it unpacked so you can see what is usually invisible in effective training. The focus is not just on what you do in the moment, but how your sessions are designed and how you show up as a presenter to create impact.

Throughout the workshop, you will receive feedback at three levels:

  • Techniques – what you do in the moment
  • Session Design – how your learning is structured
  • Presenter – how you show up, hold the room, and create impact

Most workshops focus on the first. This workshop works across all three.

What You Will Learn

You will develop your ability to design and facilitate learning with clarity and intention.

  • Design for the learner, not the content – Focus on what lands, not just what is covered
  • Use framing to guide attention and action – Open, guide, and close learning moments with purpose
  • Create engagement intentionally – Move beyond personality-driven delivery
  • Make clear distinctions that deepen learning – Help learners see what matters
  • Give directions that enable participation – Structure activities so learners can act with clarity
  • Design interactive learning experiences – Use discussions and structures to drive participation
  • Work with the room in real time – Respond to energy, dynamics, and learners as they are

How You Will Learn

This is an experiential, practice-based workshop. You will learn by participating in a carefully designed learning experience, observing facilitation in action, and practising it yourself. Throughout the workshop, you will receive structured and personalised feedback to help you see what is happening in your facilitation and how to improve it.

The workshop is designed to be hands-on and intensive. There will be moments of stretch, and at times, discomfort—but these are often where the most meaningful learning happens. Rather than just understanding concepts, you will experience them, reflect on them, and begin applying them to your own practice.

A Note on the Experience

This is not a passive workshop. It involves active participation, practice, and ongoing feedback throughout the three days. You will be invited to step forward, try things out, and examine your own facilitation more closely. At times, this can feel demanding, especially with the pace and depth of learning. If you are looking for something light or purely informational, this may not be the right fit. However, if you are open to being stretched and are serious about developing your craft, you will likely find the experience meaningful and worthwhile.

What Participants say

I have attended many training courses and Yen Kai’s approach to training was truly refreshing and I simply loved the Impact after 3 days of training. He truly demonstrated WHAT GREAT impactful session can look like and feel like.

Betty Julian Tan

Yen Kai was very engaging and knowledgeable, and highly skilful in facilitation. What I found most helpful was that we got to experience the effects of the various techniques first before learning what they were.

Tang Bek Wuay, PhD, Psyched4Work

The most valuable takeaway has got to be the customised feedback provided after our practical sessions. Yen Kai provides feedback on AFIs that, very often, are our blind spots in conducting a session. This workshop is truly a masterclass!

Zul, Lecturer, TP

It helped me see that powerful training starts with how I set the room, guide attention and shape the learning experience.

The exercises were clear, the energy was high and the tools were easy to use in real situations.

Ho Eng Lee, Branch Director, AscenXio.sg [PIAS]

Yen Kai effectively demonstrated the facilitation design and techniques he was training, while customising the workshop to meet the learners’ needs. As a trainer, he displayed range when engaging with learners of different profiles and also gave us feedback on how we can manage ourselves better as trainers.

Melissa Sim, L&D Specialist

He has tremendous range, builds safety in the room effortlessly, and gets people to contribute in new and unique ways. Most importantly, he gives you a fantastic template to base yourself off as a trainer. His workshop behaviour, design, and techniques are all intentional. Nothing is left to chance, but the magic is you don’t see it.

Imram Khan, Principal, SignPost

it will greatly leapfrog my own training and facilitation skills. He has helped me see the world of training and facilitation through a new perspective and I am keen to learn more of the know-hows.

Irene Lim, CCXP
AVP Customer Relations, The Ascott Limited

hank you Yen Kai! This workshop is really a masterclass I’m learning so much more compared to previous courses I had with you.

I appreciate your sincerity in wanting to help me improve my craft!.

Macarios, Outdoor Educator, UWC

This three-day is a firehose of new learnings, yet it feels like a fun offsite with a lovely newsgroup of friends. Every aspect is thoughtfully crafted and adapted to provide relevant insights, observation, and practice.

Amy Huang, Chief Digital Product & Platform Practices, NUS ISS

September Run – A Charity Initiative

This September run of Power-To-Train is organised as a charity initiative. All proceeds will be donated to Ground-Up Initiative (GUI).

GUI is a space that brings people together to learn, reconnect, and rebuild—through community, sustainability, and experiential learning. It reaches individuals in ways that many formal systems do not.

This initiative is a small way of supporting their continued work, especially following their recent relocation and the financial strain that came with it.

If this resonates with you, we invite you to be part of this run—not just as a participant, but as a contributor to something larger.
